Rabbi Yehuda Halevi ben Rabbi Shmuel was a Spanish Rabbi, physician, poet and philosopher. A number from his thousands of poems were integrated into standard Jewish liturgy, including 'Yom Shabason' which is song by many Jewish homes during the Shabbat day meal. Rabbi Yehuda Halevi authored the 'Kuzri', a philosophical book that attempts to prove the truth of the Jewish religion and relates the story of the Kuzrit nation's mass conversion. Rabbi Yehuda Halevi immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and was killed by an arab horseman as he lay mourning on the floor by the gates of Yerushalaim's ruins.
