[edit] Potion of Life

Once a peddler traveled from town to town denouncing he was selling the 'potion of life'. When Rabbi Yanni asked to purchase the potion, the peddler replied that it was not necessary for men of his statue. Rabbi Yanni insisted and the peddler pulled out a book of Tehilim opening to the verses of "Who is the man who wants life, who loves days of seeing good? Guard your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from speaking deceit." Rebbe Yannai responded, "All my life I read this pasuk and I did not realize how simple its meaning was until this peddler came along and taught me who the man is who desires life!"
