Bar Kappara was Sage living during the generation bridging the Tannaim and the Amoraim. He was a student of Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi. His students included Rabbi Oshiya and Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi.
Identity
The first name of Bar Kappara is unknown although there are opinions that it was Shimon and others that it was Elazar. In Kohlet Rabba he is referred to as Abba bar Kappara but 'Abba' could be just a prestigious title.
Kever Bar Kappara
Bar Kappara is buried in Karmiel in a cave located in a hill right above the Givat Ram neighborhood. He is buried along with Rabbi Elazar HaKappar who was possibly his father.
