Tishrei is the first month of the Jewish calendar and the seventh month according to Biblical order. [edit] Month of the Ethanim

During the period of the First Temple and proceeding it Tishray was known as the month of the Ethanim. This is a reference to the birth of Avraham, Yitzchok and Yackov, whom were all born during this month. After the Babylonian exile the month was renamed Tishrei.
