Tishrei

(Hebrew: / Spelling: Tishrei, Tishray, Tishri / Other Names: Esonim, Ethanim) 

Tishrei is the first month of the Jewish calendar and the seventh month according to Biblical order. During the month of Tishrei the High Holidays of Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippor, Sukkot and the fast of Gidalya take place. Tishri is considered a time of repentance and forgiveness for the Jewish Nation.

== Month of the Ethanim ==

During the period of the First Temple and proceeding it Tishray was known as the month of the Ethanim. This is a reference to the birth of Avraham, Yitzchok and Yackov, whom were all born during this month. After the Babylonian exile the month was renamed Tishrei.
