Rabbi Yochanan ben Broka was a third generation Tana, a student of Rabbi Yehoshua ben Chananya and a friend of Rabbi Elazar bar Chamsah. He is mentioned a few times in the Mishna and more often in various Brisos. Rebbe Yochanan ben Broka had a son Rebbe Yishmoel. He lived long and is found arguing with a number of fourth generation Tanaim including Rebbe Meir, Rebbe Shimon, Rebbe Yehuda and Rebbe Yossi.
