They were obliterated from the earth. Only Noach and those with him in the ark survived. Although Noach survived, it was rough experience for him as well. He was groaning and spitting blood because of the burden taking care of the cattle and beasts.<ref name="Rashi Berashis 7:23"/> He was also wounded after the lion struck him when he delayed feeding it.<ref name="Rashi Berashis 7:23"/> This was to eradicate any misdoings of Noach while still in This World, so he would not be punished in the next.<ref name="Rashi Berashis 7:23"/>
