When a window opening is quite large, homeowners can either install one oversized replacement window or may combine several windows for an aesthetic appearance. The unit displayed here includes two double hung windows which ensure proper ventilation and, due to the double panes, adequate thermal insulation. The home's façade was deemed too plain with only the two windows so the architectural design added the element of two quarter round windows to create a more elegant look. The windows are northward facing and receive little sun exposure so no low emissivity coating was applied.
